If you love the outdoors, you will want to visit the alpine wilderness areas near Hanmer Springs. The Lewis Pass Area and Lake Sumner Forest Park offer excellent hiking possibilities, while the area around the town abounds in adventure activities. There are many interesting routes for 4WD explorers, while fishermen and hunters will find plenty to do in the surrounding countryside.
